Standing proudly in the town centre since 1871, Rochdale Town Hall is a real icon of the community – but its unrivalled gothic architecture recently began to show its age. Rochdale Borough Council, Rochdale Development Agency and the National Lottery Heritage fund embarked on the ‘Your Town Hall Reborn’ project, with the aim to restore the building’s stunning period features, and create new spaces for community use. Project communications began at the location, so were we tasked with creating bold signage to graphically showcase key aspects of the transformation.
We created a distinct project marque designed to reflect its prestige, characterised by a stylish headline font and bold colour palette. Alongside this were a series of large format site hoarding panels, which provided a fantastic blank canvas to tell the story of the Town Hall’s past, present and future – delving into its history, and showcasing the improvements that will be made when it reopens to the public. By marrying copy, CGI and photography in the most considered way, we created a narrative designed to excite and engage the local community.
